What's Your Biggest Weakness

It's a common question to ask candidates, but it has been dubbed as the worst in a recent article by the Daily Times.  You rarely get an honest answer because most candidates will twist their response to try and show a strength instead: 'I'm too accommodating', 'I'm a perfectionist'.  Although these types of answers may highlight admirable qualities, it's the honest answers with actual negatives that may show up the better candidates.

Honesty can give you a sense of trust in your candidates and immediately highlight how you can help them improve rather than waiting to find out through mistakes and mishaps while they are 'on the job'.  It takes courage and self-awareness to admit to your flaws.  Those are both qualities worth having on your team.
