Fundraising Communications Manager

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England (£14 - 15 per hour)

Job Title:                     Fundraising Communications Manager

To provide fundraising and communications support and devise initiatives for the charity and its donors, working with the Chief Executive and the charity’s Trustees in their responsibilities for fundraising and donor communications.



  • Managing the charity’s fundraising activities
  • Maintaining and improving all forms of communications with the general public, fundraisers and patient groups
  • Increasing the public’s awareness of the charity’s capabilities and fundraising needs
  • Acting as the main point of contact for organisations and individuals contacting the charity about all aspects of charitable giving
  • Devising and implementing fundraising initiatives in conjunction with the Chief Executive and the Board Members
  • Producing regular reports on fundraising activities
  • Ensuring the charity’s website is kept up-to-date with information about fundraising activities and in terms of links to social media
  • Recording fundraising income and expenditure and preparing related accounts for audit
  • Producing a regular newsletter for the charity’s supporters
  • Ensuring that donations are acknowledged in an appropriate and timely manner and are managed in accordance with the requirements of the Charity Commission
  • Maintaining appropriate protocols for data management in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act


  • Learning about the type of cancer that of the charity covers, maintaining a basic knowledge of the medical context of the charity and keeping abreast of developments
  • Gaining an understanding of the charity’s work and projects in order to demonstrate to donors and potential donors how their contributions are used


  • Experience of fundraising in the charity sector
  • Excellent IT skills covering the use of all Office programs including Access
  • Ability to establish and develop contact with donors
  • A proven track record in planning and managing successful fundraising initiatives
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people including healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and on the telephone
  • Good writing and organisational skills, especially in developing the charity’s newsletter
  • Graphic design and website posting experience
  • Knowledge of social media in a charity context
  • Based in the Cambridge area and able to work effectively from home
  • Able to travel to fundraising venues in the UK from time to time and occasionally at weekends
